Emotional Intelligence
Emotional intelligence is a group of skills that everyone can learn. A higher level of emotional intelligence reduces overall stress in life and increases the feelings of peace and satisfaction with life. The primary components of emotional intelligence are:
- Self Awareness of emotions and body sensations.
- Self Regulation of those emotions and body sensations.
- Motivation to do your best each day. Best might look different from day to day, but that drive to keep moving forward is present.
- Empathy for others and what their perspectives on life might be. You don’t have to agree with them, but for optimal functioning being able to see the perspective of others can help build greater friendships and community.
- Social skills for interacting with others in relationships and community.
Self Awareness & Self Regulation
In today’s fast-paced world, stress and tension can feel like a constant presence. But society encourages everyone to stuff emotions. Relaxation feels like a foreign concept. Over time, we can become numb to our feelings. Other people become over sensitized to feelings and can become triggered by small events. I work with clients to increase their awareness of their emotions and body sensations. This is done with tapping and brainspotting to acknowledge the current feelings and anything that has been suppressed. As emotions are acknowledged, and often honored because they have been ignored, processing and regulation can occur. This process typically allows for a type of relaxation most people haven’t felt before. Genuine peace begins to be experienced, first in small moments, but over time, the peace and calm increases to become daily occurrences.
Increasing self awareness and self regulation results in a significant increase in emotional intelligence. Clients begin to recognize how different interactions can affect them and are able to make more informed decisions and set boundaries with others. This helps also to increase motivation for doing things to move forward towards their personal and professional goals.
Empathy & Social Skills
Interacting with other people takes on an entirely different feel when we approach them from a relaxed and peaceful perspective. We are centered in knowing ourselves and are better able to actively listen to others without projecting our feelings onto other people. Instead of entering conversations with a sensitive emotional state on the verge of being triggered, you can enter conversations calmly and centered. This change results in a big shift in how interactions take place with others. Conflict starts to go away. You can more easily set safe boundaries. Your confidence increases.

Tools I’ll use to help you:
- Somatic Tapping – tapping can help you release blocks holding you back from experiencing a happier, more confident life. Tapping can also help increase positive feelings of joy and happiness.
- Brainspotting – brainspotting allows your mind to explore unconscious areas which may hold blocks and release them. Releasing blocks allows for shifts in perspective, moods, and attitude.
- Symbolism – many people resonate more with imagery, from dreams, oracle cards, or their own personal art.
- Journaling – expressing through the written word can feel very freeing.
